If a fax doesn't go through
We try again when the line is busy or nobody answers. If it still fails, you aren't charged.
When we try again
If the line is busy, nobody answers or the connection drops, we try again up to 2 more times at no extra charge. The status shows Retrying while we wait for the next try.
Why a fax fails
When a fax fails for good, its page says why. These are the usual reasons:
- The line was busy, or nobody answered, after every try.
- The receiving fax machine rejected the fax.
- The recipient's fax number isn't in service.
- The number answered, but it isn't a fax machine.
- The receiving fax machine couldn't accept this many pages.
What you pay
Nothing. For a single fax, we release the hold on your card. On a plan, the pages go back to your plan.
What to do next
- Check the recipient's fax number with them, and ask whether their fax machine is on and has paper.
- Press Try again on the fax's page. It copies the fax into a new one, ready to review and send. Without an account, press Send a new fax.
- For a long document, try sending it as several smaller faxes.
Now and then we never get a final answer about a call. Then we say “We couldn't confirm that your fax went through, though it may have reached the recipient.” You aren't charged, and plan pages come back. Check with the recipient before you send it again.
